Noah's Ark

In June of 2010 Mark Elmer and his son Michael did a 'father & son' expedition to North Eastern Turkey to visit the town of Dogubeyazit. Dogubeyazit sits in a large valley at the foot of Mt. Ararat who's elevation is 5,137 m/16,854 ft. The Armenian and Iranian borders lie just a few miles to the east of Dogubeyazit.

Some claim that the 'Noah's Ark' still lies on Mt. Ararat, whilst others have claimed the Ark lies on the opposing mountain range about 17 miles south of Ararat (on the Mountains of Ararat, Gen.8:4 - 'mountains' Strong's:2022 or 2042) Having researched the evidence and studied the scripture, we went to the site south of Ararat to a village called Uzengili, high up on the mountain at 1890m/6'200 ft.

Reasons for Believing Uzengili is the correct site of the Ark

  1.     We believe that the scriptural account is accurate with the Ark coming to rest on 'the Mountains of Ararat' in North Eastern Turkey.
  2. The scriptural account makes it clear that both mountains and vegetation were seen before the Ark came to rest a couple of months later. As Ararat is the highest of the mountains by far, if it was present at that time, it does not seem logical that the Ark would land near the top 'snow-line' as the other site claims.
  3. People who claim to have seen the Ark on Mt. Ararat say it is a whole shape/boat and some claim to have entered it; yet in Gen.8:13 Noah removes the covering/roof - probably to let in significant fresh air and later to use the wood to build new land shelters. This would fit with the appearance of the ship at Uzengili.
  4. Radar soundings have been conducted on the Uzengili ship and the results show iron plots/bolts. When the dots are connected they form the shape of a ship's hull. Gen.4:22
  5. A sample of the ship's side has been bored out and tested which show the material to be petrified wood.
  6. The length, width and depth of this ship seems accurate enough - to that as prescribed by God in the making of the Ark - for any 'reasonable' person, recognising the artefact is 4'000 years old!
  7. The shape is clearly a symmetrical 'boat shape', and taking the above into account what else could it be? And who would build a ship near the top of a mountain?
  8. Both the historian Flavius Josephus and the Epic of Gilgamesh - to mention a few - have documented not only the existence of the Ark but that it was seen by many, and people would remove parts of the Ark. Some documents say people lived near the Ark site. This indicates that the Ark was easily accessible
